Mobile Phone text Messaging affects Writing Skills in PNG
Anyone can speak English very well but to perfect writing skills in English, it is vital that one must be able to practise good English by writing it, reading and even texting correctly when using a mobile.
Unfortunately this is not the case with today’s generation who are eagerly exploring and turning to texting slangs to their friends when chatting with their friends via the mobile phone. In fact, more and more of our school age children spend more time on this bad habit that it is now reflecting in their studies.
This concern was raised by the former Education Secretary and Academic Dr Musawe Sinebare who has sighted a lot of grammatical errors resulting from excessive usage of mobile phone.
“As the saying goes “practise makes perfect” so if the students spend more time writing English using words that are recognised by the English dictionary, they get better in that area and it’s vice versa with text messaging which has already become a norm in today’s generation and it’s reflected back in their studies” said Dr Sinebare.
