Waipo resumes office

Correctional Service Commissioner Michael Waipo resumed office yesterday (Monday 14-03-16) , following last Friday's Supreme Court ruling.

This was after several un-successful attempts over the weekend.
The high court stayed a National Executive Council decision in February appointing Bernard Nepo as acting commissioner pending a judicial review.
This morning, the situation nearly turned nasty as factions gathered at the CS head quarters in Waigani.
The situation was quelled by both leaders who intervened to address the crowd.
They had an issue with two copies of the ruling, one signed by the Supreme Court registry officials and another by the presiding judge.
Nepo and Waipo agreed to sort the issue with the registry officials which they did.
Commissioner Waipo informed NBC News later in the day, he had occupied the office.
He temporary sits in the position awaiting the judicial review, which is expected to be heard soon.
