Police Officers colluding with vehicle owners to claim false compensations from MVIL
Certain Police Officers in PNG are colluding with vehicle owners to illegally claim accident compensation claims from Motor Vehicle Insurance Limited (MVIL).
The MVIL has presented the files to police last month, after conducting its own investigations into accident claims submitted to it for compensation. Police Commander of the National Capital District and Central, Sylvester Kalaut, has confirmed receiving fraudulent accident claims from the Motor Vehicle Insurance Limited. According to Kalaut, the files are serious in nature as some police officers have been mentioned in those files.
But he said, the files are too many, and it will take time before he can assign an investigation team to look into the reports.
The M-V-I-L sighted irregularities in the claims involving police traffic officers, and has come up with the report for the Police Internal Affairs to investigate officers allegedly involved in producing these false claims.
Motor Vehicle Insurance Limited Chief Executive Officer Mr Joe Wemin urged police to conduct an internal investigations as the reports alleges involvement of police officers colluding with vehicle owners in submitting accidents compensation claims.
Mr Joe Wemin adds, such fraudulent claims cost the state millions of kina, and such practice has to be stopped.
