PNG Hunters go down fighting
The PNG SP Hunters went down fighting to Burleigh Bears 20 - 18 on ANZAC Monday. Poor set completion options and ball handle errors kept the Hunters scoreless in the first half.
The Bears scored two tries and shot a penalty to take the lead 14 - 0 at half time.
In the second half, the Hunters were first to score through Bland Abavu. Half back Ase Boas added the extras and trailed 14 - 6. The Bears regrouped and replied with a try to extend their lead to 20 - 6. Hunters forward, Timothy Lomai dashed through a gap and scored for the visitors to stay within reach. Boas sent the ball between the uprights and the Hunters trailed 20 -12 with fifteen minutes on the clock.
The Hunters scored again through Justin Olam and closed the margin to 20 -18 with four minutes on the clock. Poor handling errors and giving away possession saw the Hunters second defeat of the season.
The Bears won 20 - 18 on full time
