PNG Air New Flight Route a vital connection for Bougainville

Being an Island region with so many small islands, the two main islands of the Autonomous region of Bougainville are now connect by air service as PNG Air made its inaugural flight from Port Moresby to Buka Airport and then to Aropa aerodrome in Kieta which is an hour drive from Buka, and another boat ride.
The brand new ATR72 airplane which made its maiden flight on Thursday last week is the third of such to the fleet of PNG.
That’s according to the General Manager Craig Chapel who says the company is aiming to provide a connection for the people of Bougainville that does not exist at present and that is flights from Buka to Kieta.
This vital connection according to the Minster of Technology under the Autonomous Bougainville Government Mr Luke Karaston will improve the economic activity of the people of Bougainville especially those who trade between Buka and Kieta and other travellers who wish to visit other parts of PNG.
Minister Karaston when welcoming the PNG Air delegates says that such service provided to the people of Bougainville not only competes with other service providers but provides affordable alternatives to them.
The new flight route he says will also boost tourism in the region and which will provide an income for people. He assured PNG Air that Bougainville will take care of the much needed service.
