PNG's National Disaster Office runs dry
The National Disaster Centre currently has no funds to assist requests from Provincial Offices with funding.
This was confirmed by Acting Director Martin Mose in an interview this morning.
Mr Mose said the National Disaster Centre also does not know how much was allocated for Disaster this year and clarified that all these funds were still locked up at the Treasury office.
Meanwhile Mr Mose said the National Disaster Centre is currently working on a new National Disaster Bill which is now in progress with the Attorney General’s Officer to be approved for Parliament.
He said the Bill was derived from all the Provincial Disaster Coordinators resolutions in their summit in Milne Bay last year to improve capacity in all provincial offices.
Mr Mose said once the Bill is passed in Parliament, it will now be a tool for the National Disaster Centre to do its best in improving capacity in all provinces.
