The Fiji Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, has received Papua New Guinea’s new High Commissioner to Fiji, Lucy Blanche-Lee Badina Bogari, Fiji Sun reports.
Ms Bogari thanked Ratu Inoke for the warm Fijian welcome she received and said she looked forward to her assignment in Fiji.
She expressed her sympathy and condolences for victims of Cyclone Winston, and said the PNG government was committed to realising its pledges of support for rehabilitation efforts.
She said the Fiji–PNG relationship was ‘symbiotic’ and both countries could always learn from each other.
Ratu Inoke said Fiji looked up to PNG as a country that had always stood by Fiji’s side in difficult circumstances.
Meanwhile, Ms Bogari presented her credentials to the President, Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konousi Konrote, yesterday as the new PNG envoy to Fiji.
The ceremony was preceded by a 25-member guard of honour by members of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces that was accorded to the new envoy.
Ms Bogari is one of Papua New Guinea’s most experienced foreign service officers and diplomats. Previous postings include High Commissioner to New Zealand.
Ms Bogari will be based in Suva.
