Kapia, Lapua and Dickson suspended from from Digicel Cup competition
The PNGNRL Judiciary has come down hard on the three Hela Wigmen players who were involved in an incident that took place in Mendi on May 08th during the Round 4 match against the Rabaul Gurias.
The three players, Dickson Paul, Maxie Kapia and Captain David Lapua will be serving a combined suspension of 11 years from the Digicel Cup competition.
According to PNGNRL Administrator, Stanley Hondina such actions and behaviours will not be tolerated in the competition and this hefty penalty, which was handed down by the PNGNRL judiciary, is a warning to all Franchises and the players taking part in the Digicel Cup competition to take heed of.
“PNGNRL is here to ensure that a good conducive and safe environment is created for the game to be played and the message is very clear, if any teams in the competition carry on to do the same thing than the precedent has been set and the PNGNRL Judiciary will not hesitate to hand down hefty decisions to protect the game,” said Mr Hondina.
Meanwhile the Hela Wigmen Franchise management have condemned the actions of their players but have also made their intentions known after their talks with the PNGNRL that they will challenge the PNGNRL Judiciary’s decision.
“Every team in the Digicel Cup competition has the rights to freedom of appeal if they feel the penalties or decisions are harsh. The Wigmen management has support the decision that was made but they believe it was harsh and they want a review on the decision and they will be filing an appeal,” said Mr Hondina .PNGFM / PNG Today
