Southern Highland signs over K13 million worth Agro Industry Project
The Southern Highlands Provincial Government signed a first of its kind Ago project with the Innovative Agro Industry Limited (IAI) at the Government House today at a cost of over K13M, witnessed by the State.
The project will provide local farmers in Highlands region to the missing link to marketing through the development of frozen Vegetables Industry in PNG.
The aim of this vital project is to ultimately replace imports of vegetables and develop export markets, create employment opportunities for local farmers and impart relevant skills to know how required for vegtable farming to local growers.
The Highland Agro Industrial Centre will be established in Pangia in the Ialibu Pangia District and will also include a central office, plant, warehouse and training facility.
Southern Highlands Provincial Administrator Joe Kaiyo said he was adamant the project will create an impact on the lives of local farmers in the region and also create job opportunities for the local population.
The Southern Highlands Provincial Government and the IAI will partner in the project in a Joint Venture Company with support from the National Government through the Department of Agriculture and Livestock.
