Young PNG and Australian entrepreneurs share secrets of success
Young Papua New Guinean business owners and professionals yesterday had the chance to share their ideas with like-minded Australian entrepreneurs, as part of the Australian High Commission’s PNG-Australia Bung Wantaim-Yumi Poroman Week.
In a panel discussion arranged in partnership with the Young Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry (YPOM CCI) and the Lowy Institute, four Australian panellists led discussions on entrepreneurship.
Social entrepreneurs, Tessa Albrecht and Julian O’Shea, along with PNG-Australia Network Director Jonathan Pryke and ‘coffee-preneur’ Sabine Joseph, shared their entrepreneurship stories and experiences with members of the Young Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Young POM CCI President Christopher Elphick said: “The Young POM CCI provides the youth of Port Moresby the opportunity to excel in their professional lives; be it through knowledge-based sessions like this, or through the networking and mentoring opportunities we create through events and meetings.”
“We would like to thank the Australian speakers for taking the time to share their knowledge, the Lowy Institute for facilitating this session and the Australian High Commission for inviting us to participate in the PNG-Australia Week program.”
Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice President Ken Dunn said: “The members of the Young POM CCI are the future. We are glad that they are getting the exposure they need to discover new professional opportunities and to discuss their ideas with people who have significant experience and insight to share.”
The panel discussion was part of the annual PNG-Australia Bung Wantaim-Yumi Poroman Week hosted by the Australian High Commission to highlight the connections between Papua New Guineans and Australians across a range of activities including music, sports, entertainment and education.
