Lawyer escapes Police custody
A lawyer charged for killing his wife last month has escaped from police custody in Port Moresby, NBC reports. .
Felix Kange, principal of Kange Lawyers and a private businessman was arrested last Thursday and charged with manslaughter.
The court refused his bail application today, but not before Public Prosecutor Pondros Kaluwin alerted the court of his escape from the Waigani Police Station.
Kaluwin said this happened on Saturday, but did not disclose details.
Kange is expected to be slapped with the charge for escaping lawful custody, if he is re-captured.
Meantime, a judge has expressed concern over the actions of the father of Late Regina Morova who agreed for her alleged killer to be released on bail.
The accused Felix Kange, a lawyer and private businessman, is the husband of the deceased.
Judge George Manuhu said he wondered, "if the deceased Regina Morova could talk from the grave, how could she reflect of her fathers actions?
Judge Manuhu also questioned the investigating officer who also agreed for the accused to be released on bail.
He said its unusual.
Justice Manuhu when handing the ruling said the charge of man slaughter was very serious and carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
He refused the bail application as the reasons outlined was not enough to compel the judge to use the courts discretion to allow bail.
Details of the killing is sketchy, but police were told, Kange accidentally shot his wife when his handgun went off.
