Solomon Airlines suspends all flights
Solomon Airlines has decided to ground all its domestic and international flights as of this morning.
The CEO and the board of Solomon Airlines said it has been flying under duress and jeopadising safety standards.
The airline said it is concerned about the number of flying hours for pilots and the overuse of the domestic fleet.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communication Aviation, Moses Virivolomo, said the airline is making use of a clause in the Civil Aviation Act regarding safety.
The airline also said Finance Ministry has delayed payments owed to it for charters, as well as tickets for government officials over an extended period of time.
Meanwhile our correspondent said an Australian has signed a contract as the new CEO of Solomon Airlines, but the airline board has not announced the appointment.
