Prime Minister O'Neill concerned about the Medical Condition of the Governor General Sir Ogio
The Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill has extended warm wishes to the Governor General, Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio, GCL, GCMG, KStJ, and his family, after Sir Michael was moved to Brisbane for specialist medical attention.
The Governor General’s condition is currently listed as critical.
Prime Minister O’Neill asked people around the Papua New Guinea, and the Pacific, to offer their prayers for the Governor General.
“I ask that our people pray for the Grand Chief, Sir Michael Ogio, and his family at this concerning time.
“Our Governor General is truly an outstanding leader in our nation, and we pray for positive news from his family."
The Governor General Sir Michael Ogio was this morning medevaced to Brisbane, Australia, to receive urgent medical treatment.
In a statement, the Government House confirmed the Grand Chief was taken to Pacific International Hospital on Wednesday this week and underwent regular medical checks.
However, his condition deteriorated and was admitted at the hospital's intensive care unit.
Sir Michael was administered blood transfusion to stabilize his condition.
The vice regal had undergone a coronary heart bypass surgery in Singapore in November, last year.
He has developed serious complications that warrant urgent medical treatment that is not available in the country.
