Germany records first win in U-20 Womens' FIFA World Cup
Defending champion Germany has registered its first win in the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea by beating tournament debutants Venezuela 3 - 1.
Germany wasted no time opening up the score board through Madeline Gier with the first goal just two minutes into the game.
Venezuela fought back after 23 minutes to level the score 1-1 through Mariana Speckmaier.
16 minutes later Venezuela's Idalys Perez again attempted to score from a back flip kick few meters out but failed to find the net.
Germany came back strong when again Gier shocked the debutants in the 45th minute with a clear sweep right in front of the goal mouth to score her second goal taking her team to lead 2-1 at half-time.
Germany continued to dominate the game in the second half scoring their third goal 3-1 through Lea Schueller 50 minutes into the game.
Schueller gave a powerful kick straight into the net from 10 meters out.
Regardless of height, Venezuela goal keeper Oriana Palacios managed to stop more attempted goals by heavyweights Germany.
Germany kept the defence with a strong backline preventing the debutants from scoring after few more attempts.
The defending champions proved their worth and managed to hold on until the final whistle at full-time.
Gier was awarded the Live Your Goals Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.
