Security beefed up at 5 mile
Police will be patrolling the 5-mile Christmas lights area after reports were published in the media about harassment by youths and opportunists. Police Commissioner Gari Baki said reports of assaults and harassment on the public especially women and girls at the 5 mile lights is not just the responsibility of police but every Papua New Guinean.
Police will patrolling the area at nights but all citizens are expected to be in their best behaviour and enjoy the lights and celebrate Christmas in its true spirit.
Commissioner Baki appealed to the public to respect women, children, law and order and go down and be part of the celebrations.
He said those who step out of the line will be dealt with and may face spending Xmas behind bars.
