King Tupou VI of Tonga officially opens Tanoa International Dateline Hotel

The newly refurbished four-star Tanoa International Dateline Hotel in Nuku’alofa has been officially opened by His Majesty King Tupou VI.

The landmark hotel is being managed by the Tanoa Hotels Group which operates hotels in Fiji, New Zealand and Samoa.

Queen Nanasipau’u, Crown Prince Tupouto’a ‘Ulukalala and Crown Princess Sinaitalaka, HRH Princess Pilolevu Tuita and Lord Tuita and members of Tonga’s Royal Family graced the official opening ceremony yesterday.

Other invited guests included Prime Minister ‘Akilisi Pohiva, cabinet ministers, members of the diplomatic Corps as well as members of a visiting New Zealand business mission to Tonga.

The President of the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga – Rev. Dr. ‘Ahio led the prayer of dedication and blessing of the hotel.

The Tanoa Hotels Group signed an agreement with the Government of Tonga in March 2015 to renovate, refurbish and manage what was formerly known as the International Dateline Hotel.

The refurbishment was completed late last year.

The design included a new pool bar and restaurant complex and a new Health and Spa facility.

In an earlier statement, the Chairman of Tanoa Hotels Group and pioneering Fijian hotelier, Y P Reddy said it was their intention to offer their guests the best appointed guest accommodation and facilities in Nuku'alofa and bring back this once iconic hotel to its former glory.

“The hotel will be refurbished to a four star standard and will appeal to the corporate, international leisure, visiting friends and families (VFR) and conference markets.’

The renovation cost up to TOP$18 million.
