PNG Hunters beat Northern Pride 26 - 10
The SP PNG Hunters defeated Northern Pride 26- 10 in round 9 of the Intrust Super Cup match at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby this afternoon.
In the absence of try-scoring maching Adex Wera, replacement center Willie Minoga became the man of the moment with two tries and man-of-the-match performance for the Hunters.
Minoga crossed over the first try to put his team infront on the third minute. Captain Boas sent the ball between the uprights and the Hunters took the early lead 6 - 0.
The Hunters scored again through Ase Boas after a dummy play from a scrum. His conversion was unsuccessful and the home side led 10 - 0 through to half-time.
The second half began with a penalty to the home side. Boas found the uprights to extend the lead to 12 - 0 .
The visitors regrouped and muscled up in defence and attack. A try was scored through winger Marcus Jensen to trail 12 - 4. The Hunters sent Willie Minoga again for his second try of the afternoon to further extend the score to 18 - 4. In the next play, a penalty was awarded to the Hunters who shot for goal for a 20 - 4 lead.
The Prides scored again through Colin Wilkie to reduce the margin to 20 - 10 but this was not enough to withstand the Hunters attack. Hunters hooker, Wartovo Puara added the ice on the cake with a dummy play and dived over the line to seal the game with a 26 - 10 victory of the Northern Prides. .
