Winti retains WHP Governor seat
Western Highlands Governor Paias Wingti has been declared winner about an hour ago.
Mr Wingti polled 148,428 votes. In second place was Wai Rapa on 111, 948.
Mr. Wingti, a former Prime Minister and the leader and founder of the People’s Democratic Movement Party was declared winner, after the elimination of Professor John Nonggor who was in third place.
He was declared by Provincial Returning Officer Gabriel Kiap at the Kimininga Police Barracks.
Mr Wingti in thanking the voters said he is recommitted to serve for another five years.
The Governor elect in his maiden speech said this is the first time the people have re-elected him for the second consecutive time, and he will prove to the people to serve with distinction.
