Bilums hit APEC
Papua New Guinea's traditional carry-on bag, the bilum has been given the biggest exposure during the 2-day 10th APEC Transport Ministers Meeting recently concluded in Port Moresby.
According to the PNG APEC Secretariat Chief Executive Officer, Chris Hawkins, up to 15-thousand bilums from various parts of Papua New Guinea were presented to the visiting APEC Transport Ministers and their delegates.
These bilums were presented to the delegates to use as carry-on bags to carry their stuff.
Mr Hawkins says, the APEC Leaders Summit as well as the 200 lead-up meetings will also be an avenue for PNG to market its culture and tradition to the visitors.
The bilum has proven a hit, with NBC News, spotting many of the delegates using it to carry their stuff in.
