PNG ready to host APEC Meet
Papua New Guinea (PNG) is ready to host the high level 2018 APEC meet in Port Moresby with security high on the agenda for the 21 APEC economies participating.
Commander of the APEC Joint Security Forces and Police Commissioner Gari Baki today indicated PNG’s preparedness for the APEC 2018 summit and lead up meetings to be held in the coming months starting with the APEC Transport Ministers meeting from 6th -8th October 2017.
“The arrival of two Royal Australian Air Force fighter aircrafts at the PNGDF Air Transport Wing today demonstrates the assistance by Australia to provide security during the APEC summit,” said Mr. Baki.
The fighter planes flew in this morning from Australia with the Australian Director General Air, Commodore Phil Gordon who was greeted by the Minister for Transport Westly Nukundi on behalf of Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and delegates from the APEC Security Advisory Council.
Commissioner Baki said he was pleased to note Australia’s commitment in providing eye-in capabilities and maintaining security in our air space which PNG lacked.
The two fighter jets will monitor the air space in our country for the duration of the APEC Transport Ministers Meeting starting tomorrow.
Co-chair of the APEC PNG Security Partners working group Ian Jinga said the Transport Ministers Meeting will put all systems in motion.
“The high level transport ministers meeting will ensure systems are working for PNG to successfully deliver the 2018 APEC summit.” PNGFM/PNG Today
