PNG Music Award reintroduces female category
The 14th YUMI FM PNG Musik Award for 2018 is reintroducing the category, Best Female artist of the year after the category was left out last year.
PNG FM Limited General Manager Charles Taylor revealed this today in a press conference leading up to the Award night this week Saturday at the Lamana Gold Club, Port Moresby.
Mr Taylor said the music industry is a difficult area to tap in for most female artists and introducing such category may help promote female artists.
“We at PNG FM try to promote female musicians on our radio stations because we appreciate their voices and the messages behind their songs”
Mr Taylor said music is a powerful tool that can impact a lot of people and events like the Yumi FM PNG Musik Award is an avenue to support local artists to continue their work.
Meanwhile, new category has been included which is the International Artist of the Year in association with APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association).
This is recognition of PNG artists who have signed up with APRA and have their work played all over the world with the winner to be determined by the data supplied. PNGFM/PNG Today
