PNG weight lifter Steven Kari snatches gold Medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games


Papua New Guinea's weightlifter Steven Kari has broken a 17years commonwealth record  wining the gold  and setting a new Games and commonwealth record in the 94kg Clean and jerk at Gold coast.


He was trailing Canada’s Boady Santavy by 13kg with two attempts remaining in the clean and jerk but incredibly managed to lift 216kg to claim victory with a total of 370kg.

It smashed the previous Commonwealth record, set by Australia’s Alexan Karapetyan in November 2001, by 6kg.

In second place sees Canada's Boady Santavy with a total of 369 kg winning a SILVER and in third place Vikas Thakurwith a total of 351 kg taking out BRONZE.

Victory for Kari also secured Papua New Guinea a first gold medal of Gold Coast 2018.
