Boram Hospital ransacked, Emergency Unit shut down
Boram General Hospital’s Emergency Unit in Wewak, East Sepik Province has been shut down after ransacking on Friday.
This comes after a youth in his twenties sustained injuries to his head and was rushed into the emergency unit to seek medical attention when he passed away.
East Sepik Provincial Police Commander Robert Gesa said upon the passing of the youth, angry relatives retaliated destroying the outpatient unit, medical drug supplies and hospital equipments.
PPC Gesa said two staff of the emergency unit sustained injuries on their arms and head resulting in the shutdown.
He said other wards at the hospital are still operational with the public notified of the out patient’s closure.
PPC said two suspects have been apprehended and detained while police are yet to confirm and arrest other suspects.
He stressed that the hospital’s board and stakeholders are currently in talks of the issue at hand. PNGFM
