Solomon Islands Police public order management capability on display
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Public Order Management Teams (POM) parade inspection was conducted at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara on 13 February 2019 as part of the security preparations towards the National General Election on 3 April 2019.
The POM teams include officers from the Police Response Team (PRT), the Provincial Response Unit (PRU) in Guadalcanal Province, Central Response Unit (CRU) of Honiara City, the Police Band, the Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) Team and the Emergency Response Group (ERG) of the Correctional Services of Solomon Islands.
Supervising Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Police, Gabriel Manelusi inspected the parade.
Speaking during the parade, DC Manelusi called on all the officers to be disciplined and stick to the ethics of the RSIPF.
“The country, the region and the world is watching how the RSIPF will perform its duties during the National General Election in 2019. You must be disciplined and observe the ethics of the RSIPF. Let us show how much the RSIPF has developed with the assistance from the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands which ended in mid-2017,” says DC Manelusi.
He told the officers: “We do not want to go back to what happened to the RSIPF that led to the intervention by RAMSI.”
“I want to thank the continuing assistance from Australia through the Solomon Islands Police Development Program (SIPDP) and New Zealand under the Solomon Islands Police Support Program (SIPSP) for the RSIPF. Officers of the RSIPF must now show how we have benefitted from this assistance,” says DC Manelusi.
During the National General Election members of the PRT will be deployed to the provincial centres to assist the provincial response units in those provinces.
