PM O'Neil Welcomes Indonesia’s New Ambassador to Papua New Guinea

The Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has welcomed the new Ambassador of Indonesia to Papua New Guinea, His Excellency Andriana Sutandy,
on his appointment.
During courtesy call with the Prime Minister recently this week, the Prime Minister said the relationship continues to strengthen, particularly with Indonesia’s support to Papua New Guinea’s hosting of APEC in 2018.
“Our relationship has matured with increased bilateral cooperation, new business activities, people to people engagement.
“Sharing a land border with Indonesia gives substantial potential for trade as well as co-operation in working together on international issues that are of mutual interest.
“Our officials actively engage on security, economic, environmental and development
issues through the United Nations, APEC and also within our regional forums.
“I am confident that Ambassador Sutandy will further strengthen and enhance our bilateral relationship.”
The Prime Minister also reaffirmed Papua New Guinea’s commitment to continue to uphold the principles enshrined in basic agreements guiding both countries bilateral relations, especially the Treaty of Mutual Respect, Friendship and Cooperation signed in 1986 and the Basic Agreement on Border Arrangement (BBA) that was signed in 2013.
