PNG MRDC Managing Director Augustine Mano arrested and charged

Papua New Guinea's Mineral Resources Development Company Managing Director  Augustine Mano was arrested at the Jackson International Airport in Port Moresby.  His arrest was not fraud related as circulated on Social Media but related to cyber bulling and threats.

Mr Mano  clarified that his arrest  wast  nothing to do with his role as MD of the Mineral Resources Development Company.

While he confirmed his arrest, the charges are related to an alleged offense committed under section 23 of the Cyber crime offenses act.

“The police have alleged that I initiated a series of watsapp messages with certain unknown persons from June 01 to July 01, 2019 for the purpose of harassing and threatening Philip Kende,” Mano said.

Kende is said to have been the former Chairman of the landowner company - Petroleum Resources Gobe.

Mano has denied the allegation and says he will defend himself in Court against the charge to prove his innocence.

Following three hours of being interviewed by crime investigation officers at Boroko CID office, he was released on K5000 bail.
