VAGRANT ACCUSED OF SEXUALLY TOUCHING WOMAN
A man accused of sexually touching a woman has been granted bail at K200 after telling the Court he would not be able to pay a high fee as he is unemployed and just a visitor to the National Capital District.
The accused identified as Konda Gonen, appeared before senior magistrate Cosmas Bidar at the Waigani Committal Court this morning, asking for bail to be set between K100 and K150 while the prosecution submitted for a higher fee to be imposed.
Bidar while granting bail at K200 set a condition that the accused is to report to the Court registry every Friday during the period of his committal court process.
It is alleged that on the 4th of this month, Gonen had persuaded a woman at 9 mile in the National Capital District to follow him in the guise of buying her food and drinks.
As the pair walked along a secluded area, the accused allegedly forced the lady to remove her clothing but she resisted.
In the tussle, Gonen is alleged to have grabbed her breast.
The woman, in an attempt to get away, is said to have convinced the accused to hold off on his advance and for them to go to her house as no one was home.
The accused is said to have agreed but when they arrived, the woman alerted her relatives resulting in the accused being captured and brought to police to be arrested and charged.
Following the charge being read out, the magistrate adjourned the matter to September 20 to allow police to complete investigations and have a case file ready.
