PNG Health Minister urges public to report those who steal drugs
Papua New Guinea Health Minister Elias Kapavore has strongly condemned the act of stealing of medical drugs by health workers in Area Medical Stores (AMS), hospitals, and clinics around the country.
Minister Kapavore says those that were found stealing at AMS were investigated and terminated as what they did were “against medical ethics”.
Kapavore says hospitals and clinics were meant for approval and supplying of drugs and not for individual health workers to take drugs home and treat patients from there.
The recent reports gathered by National Department of Health have shown that health workers have been walking away with antibiotics and other drugs from the health centers they work in.
Health Minister is now calling on the public to work together with the Health Department by reporting those health workers found to be stealing medical drugs from public health.
If the people come across such acts, they must get their names and locations of those workers and report them by calling the Hotline number 323 1831 or visit the Department’s Head office at AOPI Center building in Port Moresby.
Minister Kapavore says if health workers are reported and found to be stealing drugs, they will be investigated and terminated from their jobs soon as possible.
