PNG Kumuls get K1 Million Sponsorship to play against Batis and Lions

Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited has announced a K1 million sponsorship to the PNG Rugby Football League.
This funding is for them to compete in the Oceania Cup in New Zealand and also host the British Lions Port Moresby.
Both games are slated for next month.
Kumul Petroleum Managing Director, Mr. Wapu Sonk, in presenting the K1 million cheque today said they were happy to assist PNG’s national teams; the PNG Kumuls and PNG Orchids.
“This not just a first time support and commitment to rugby league development in the country from the national oil and gas company. We have been involved in rugby league development through various programs including PNG Hunters, PNG Kumuls, Kroton Hela Wigmen rugby league club and other tiers and off season competitions like the Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup,” Sonk said.
The managing director stressed that the KPHL is keenly investing in sports activities as part of its corporate social investment programs to add value to sporting codes, providing opportunities for sportsmen and sportswomen to excel, learn valuable life lessons and develop human resources through sports.
He wished the national teams all the success and urged the team to be good ambassadors of the country.
PNGRFL Chief Executive officer Reatau Rau thanked the Government of PNG through KPHL for the sponsorship that will go a long way in achieving the plans set out by PNGRFL.
“Hosting such games costs a lot of money and without the support from Government, we would not have hosted such international events and I want to thank the Government through KPHL for giving the support. We can now host this international event at our soil,” Reatau said.
