Koim to make GST top Revenue Earner for PNG Government
PNG's newly appointed Commissioner General of Internal Revenue Commission Sam Koim wants to make the goods and services tax, the number one revenue earner for the government.
Currently, personal income tax tops the list.
Mr. Koim made this known when Prime Minister James Marape confirmed him to the top position in Port Moresby this week.
The Commissioner-General said there were a lot of areas that need improvement and has come up with the 2020 Annual work plan for staff to work towards.
His vision is to build a robust, modern and efficient tax administration.
The former task force Sweep Team chairman said under his leadership apart from raising revenue is to improve services to reduce the compliance burden on taxpayers and digitalize taxation services.
