PNG Still classified Highly Corrupt

Papua New Guinea is again been classified as one of the most highly corrupt countries in the world according to the 2019 Corruption Perception Index, by the Transparency International, , a worldwide examination of perceptions of levels of corruption suffered by individual nations.

PNG ranks 137 out of 180 countries with a score of 28 out of 100.

The CPI scores countries on a scale of zero to 100, with 100 being perceived to be “very clean” and zero perceived to be “highly corrupt”.

In the 2028 CPI report PNG was ranked 138 of 180 countries with same score of 28/100. The
improvement is being measured in 1 point.

When TIPNG launched the report today Prime Minister James Marape was present to make a response.

Prime Minister Marape in response says the ICAC legislation and whistle lower act will be tabled in Parliament this year as he tightens his policy on fighting corruption in PNG.
