PNG Authorities apprehend 23 illegal Immigrants
Papua New Guinea authorities have apprehended a total of 20 illegal immigrants in Port Moresby since yesterday.
According to NBC News, another 3 were also rounded up in a dawn operation this morning.
All apprehended were taken to Boroko Police Station for questioning.
Those arrested were mostly from Asians.
They were alleged to have breached their Visa and Work permits. Others were alleged to have previous criminal records.
A joint operation by PNG Immigration, police from the Mobile Squad, and officials from the Labour Department.
The Special Operation is led by Immigration and Citizenship Services and Border Security, under Operation code name 'Restoration', conducted the operation in the city.
This operation came about following Prime Minister James Marape's call last week to remove all illegal immigrants in the country.
Marape had said genuine investors are well come in the country but those that do not comply with PNG laws must be deported.
More apprehension is expected in the days to come as the team launched their major joint operation in the city and around the country.
