A Western Man hacked to death by Intoxicated Engan Man
A young man from Western Province was murdered in broad day light by an intoxicated Engan man at Kaugere in Port Moresby today.
According to reports, the suspect walked towards the deceased who was with his wife and slashed his neck with a bush knife.
The young man died instantly.
The suspect managed to escaped but was later apprehended by the Gordon's Police.
The relatives of the deceased retaliated by burning down several houses of the Engans in the area.
Police are at the scene but the situation still remain tense.
Meantime, Moresby South MP and Housing Minister Justin Tkatchenko when visiting the area described the killing of the young man as barbaric, and one that has caused a massive division in the community.
He says alcohol was a contributing factor to this murder, and he has called for a complete ban on the sale of alcohol in the Moresby South electorate suburbs and settlements.
