PNG Manus Police arrest Step-father for Sexual abuse
Papua New Guiena Police in Manus have arrested a stepfather for sexually abusing his 3 stepdaughters.
Willie Towak age 43 years of Pak Island in the Rapotona LLG was arrested and charged for sexual abuse yesterday, (Thursday, 2nd January 2020).
A Facebook post highlighting his abuse by his 22-year-old eldest stepdaughter went viral on social media yesterday and following this, Manus Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector David Yapu directed his officers from the Family Sexual Violence Unit to investigate and take appropriate action.
It is alleged that the suspect began abusing his stepchildren in 2013.
Mr. Yapu said the incident was never reported to Lorengau Police due to continuous threats issued by the stepfather.
The suspect, who was refused bail, will appear for mention at the Lorengau District Court on the 8th of this month.
Meantime, PPC Yapu has appealed to the people of Manus to report any such incidences to the Family Sexual Violence Unit office or the Sexual offenses Squad office.
