Canterbury Bulldogs Prop Dylan Napa impressed with PNG fan base
The support shown by Bulldogs fans in PNG has seemingly put an impressive mark on Bulldogs prop forward Dylan Napa.
From their arrival at the airport to all the community activities, they engaged in, the Bulldogs fan base in PNG was obvious to the players.
On game day on Saturday, 10,213 people turned up at the Oil Search National Football Stadium in the Nation’s Capital to catch the trial match between the Cronulla Sharks and the Canterbury Bulldogs; however, Bulldogs had the upper hand on fan base unlike the Sharks.
The cheering by Bulldog’s fans of big name’s with the likes of Dylan Napa and Will Hopoate could be heard all around the stadium.
The Queensland Maroons rep and former Roosters enforcer Napa was impressed with the Bulldogs fan base in the country after visiting schools, observing reaction from the public at large and the huge number of supporters that turned up for the game.
“I felt the passion and the love for rugby league all around me and it is really humbling for me to play in front of such a crowd”
“As a kid growing up, I fell in love with this sport and I know it is the same feeling with most of the young ones here this evening”
Napa and team mates with players from the Sharks did a lap around the stadium to greet fans and show their appreciation for the support after an entertaining match that saw Bulldogs outclass Sharks with a 30-18 victory.
Meanwhile Sharks Captain Scott Sorensen acknowledged a good number of Sharks supporters who came in Sharks colors.
“There was banner in the crowd that said “Sharks forever till I die”, that was pretty amazing”, Sorenson said.
Despite the unbearable heat, both captains hope for more NRL games to be played in the country.
