The PNG Hunters have opened their 2020 season with a commanding 30 points to 12 demolition of the Queensland Capras in their trial match in Port Moresby.
The Hunters team looked dangerous with ball in hand as the Papua New Guinean razzle dazzle brand that disappeared from the Hunters playing style under Marum made its comeback under new mentor Mathew Church, giving a glimpse of Hunters new attacking approach.
The Hunters lacked serious height but it was made up by Stanton Albert and the Hunters pack who imposed their powerful presence early and took the game away from the Capras
The Hunters left edge spearheaded by Joe Joshua put together a attacking masterclass and destroyed the Capras brittle right to go into the break leading 20 -8
The Capras led by former Hunters McKenzie Yei came out of the second half with all guns blazing and met the Hunters in physicality in the opening ten minutes that was rewarded with a try to cut deficits by 8 points.
The Hunters looked to attack from every corner of the pitch every time there had ball in hand to the delight of the packed NFS, creativity havoc through the Capras as well as opportunities and piles of handling errors.
Two more tries by the Hunters was enough to ensure they start 2020 on a very high note.
The only dent in their preparations is new enforcer from the Snax Tigers, Mark Piti getting placed on report two times for a high tackle and a late tackle in a space of five minutes.
