PNG Opposition Office not funded : Namah
PNG Parliament was told that the office of the Opposition has not received any funding over the last 5-months.
Leader Belden Namah is calling for this to be addressed immediately.
Mr. Namah told Parliament, the office of the Opposition is currently not captured in the Constitution.
"Why hasn't the Opposition getting the funding required to run the office of the opposition?
"I understand that the Office of the Opposition gets funding direct from Parliament which you administer as the Speaker of the house.
"Every time my officers check with the clerk and the CFO, they are saying there is no funding to Parliament," Namah queried.
Speaker Job Pomat in response said every year Parliament sends its request through the Prime Minister to the national government, the Executive arm of government to facilitate its request.
"According to law, whatever Parliament and Courts request, the Executive government is supposed to provide, but it never fulfills this," Speaker Pomat reveals.
Prime Minister James Marape and Finance Minister Rainbo Paita are yet to comment on the matter.
