PNG Cabinet Minister, Former Ministers summoned to appear before UBS Loan Inquiry
A current Cabinet minister and two former ministers are to be summoned to appear before the UBS loan inquiry to have their dates set as to when to give evidence.
This comes after Foreign Affairs Minister, Patrick Pruaitch, who was former Treasurer and Finance Minister, former Minister for Public Enterprises, Arthur Somare, and former Minister for Petroleum and Energy, William Duma, did not appear before the inquiry on Friday.
Mr Pruaitch is on official duties overseas while the Commission of Inquiry officials had difficulties serving letters of invitation to appear to Mr Somare and Mr Duma.
Commission Chairman Sir Salamo Injia directed that summons be issued for them to appear on 23rd March.
Summons will also be issued for Finance Secretary and Chairman of the National Procurement Commission, Dr Ken Ngangan, Kumul Consolidated Holdings Managing Director, Isikiel Taureka and Clerk of Parliament, Vele Konivaro, who didn't appear on Friday.
KCH succeeded the Independent Public Business Corporation.
They are all to appear on summons on 23rd March.
Other witnesses who appeared on Friday were Government Chief Secretary Isaac Lupari, National Executive Council Secretary Grace So-on, Legislative Counsel Johnny Bogambari, Governor General Official Secretary Bill Toraso, National Procurement Executive Officer Simon Bole and NPC Secretary Babaga Naime.
All are to appear again on 23rd March to provide any records or documents in their custody relating to the International Petroleum Investment Company deal in 2009 and the UBS loan in 2014.
Mr Lupari will appear again on 31st March to update the Commission on progress made to compile all required records and documents.
The matter of Oil Search Managing Director Peter Botten, who has since retired but is willing to give evidence to assist the inquiry, will return on 30th March.
