CENTRAL FARMERS TO MEET CITY RESIDENTS DEMAND FOR GARDEN PRODUCE DURING SOE
Leaders from the National Capital District and Central Province, led by their Governors, and in consultation with the Office of the Prime Minister, have agreed to operate a food buying scheme to ensure constant food supply into Port Moresby during the SOE period.
Prime Minister James Marape says food will be bought in bulk from the Central Province and stored in a warehouse in the city.
Since there is slowdown in movement of people and restrictions placed on certain markets, families who wish to buy garden produce to supplement their household supplies, can do so from the warehouse.
Marape says under this arrangement the Central Provincial Government is organizing a buy and pick up from farmers in districts of Central province and brought to the warehouse for people in the city to buy.
This expected to be effective as of next week.
The PM says this should be beneficial to people who are laid off their jobs to buy food cheaply from the warehouse rather than in stores.
