COVID-19 Patient in Goroka doing well

The first corona virus-positive case in Eastern Highlands Province is doing well and is in a stable condition.

This was revealed by the Eastern Highlands Provincial Health Authority CEO Dr. Joseph Apa during a press conference in Goroka today.

The case is a 45-year-old woman from Samatoka village in the Lower Asarp LLG of the Daulo District 14 kilometers from Goroka Town.

The woman is doing fine and is closely monitored by the health staff at the isolation center COVID-19 isolation center.

The woman was in Lae and returned to Eastern Highlands Province a month ago.

She developed fever, shortness of breath, and body aches two weeks ago.

She went to Asaro Health Centre and was admitted there on the 12th of April.

She was managed at the Health Center for one week.

On the 17th of April, her samples were collected and sent to PNGIMR, and results came back positive.

Provincial Health Authority CEO Dr. Joseph Apa said they are not yet sure where she contracted the virus.

Dr. Apa added that a Rapid Response Team from Port Moresby is at Samatoka village and is conducting contact tracing.

Meantime the patient is kept at the isolation center at the Goroka base hospital awaiting her second test for quality assurance.
