Officer escapes leaving behind Land Cruiser loaded with betel nut after Police pursuit in Port Moresby
A white 5 Door Land Cruiser loaded with several bags of bettelnut was chased from Baruni into Morata in Port Moresby and impounded by members of the Dog units and Waigani Police today.
According to by-standers at Morata who witnessed the unfolding drama said the vehicle was driven by a policeman who abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into the settlement.
According to NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N'Dranou, the nuts were smuggled across the sea by dinghy operators and illegal traders from Central into the vicinity of Papa Lea Lea and Porebada villagers. Police acting on the tip off chased the vehicle from Baruni before impounding it at the Morata Community Hall.
CSP N'Dranou said the vehicle will be impounded until the policeman is identified and charged accordingly for breaching the SOE laws.
