119 PNG Defence Force Trainees removed after investigations reveal malpractices in Recruitment processes

119 PNGDF recruits this year have been removed after an internal investigation revealed that the recruitment process has been compromised.

PNG Defense Force Commander Major General Gilbert Toropo revealed this adding staff who have been identified to have compromised the recruitment process will be dealt with under the Code of Military Discipline.

He states PNGDF has a well-established recruitment and selection criteria and no staff can get it wrong.

Major General Toropo in response to former PNGDF Commander Major General Jerry Singirok’s comments on biased recruitment says PNGDF has its chain of command and service personnel have delegated responsibilities of the Commanders of PNGDF.

He says for recruitment, the staff are delegated the responsibility through the Chief of Personnel to conduct recruiting saying as the Commander he does not conduct recruitment.

Major General Toropo who learned earlier this year about the compromise in the 2020 recruitment immediately issued Terms of Reference for the conduct of the investigation which has been recently completed.
