COVID-19 SOE ends on 2nd June : Parliament to decide on Extension

The State of Emergency ends on June 2 and PNG Parliament is expected to meet a week prior, to discuss whether to extend it or not.

SOE Controller David Manning announced in the update on COVID-19 response yesterday.

Mr Manning says at the moment there is no local evidence to assist the Government to determine the way forward.

But he thanked WHO for donating over 10,000 GeneXpert cartridges which will assist the PNG Government to do more tests and assess where PNG is, in terms of COVID-19 so that it can make the right decision.

The tests will begin in Port Moresby and will also focus on areas where the positive COVID-19 cases were identified including in the border provinces.

The SOE Controller says the tests will enable the authorities to make evidence based decisions going forward, adding even then he would expect that the “new normal” protocols developed now will continue even beyond the life of the SOE.  FM100/PNG Today
