PNG buys COVID-19 PPEs and Testing Kits from China

Papua New Guinea Government  has bought more Medical Equipment from China. A chartered Air Niugini flight carrying over 16 tonnes of Personnel Protective Equipment (PPEs) arrived  in Port Moresby from Guangdong Province, China on Monday.

The flight, chartered by the PNG Government, departed Port Moresby yesterday, Sunday 10th May, 2020 for Guangdong and returned this afternoon with the supplies.

PNG Minister for Health Jelta Wong, representatives from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and others, welcomed the aircraft on arrival at the APEC Charter Terminal at 7mile here in Port Moresby.

National Emergency Controller, David Manning has said all COVID-19 medical supplies brought into Papua New Guinea will be exempted from all customs duty during this national emergency.

In a new emergency order on Customs Exemptions, Mr. Manning said all medical supplies bought on behalf of the Government to test, diagnose and treat COVID-19 patients will be exempted from all customs duties and other import duties throughout the state of emergency.

He said the medical supplies will be exempted from the provisions under the relevant tax legislation to the extent necessary to give effect to the Emergency Order.

Mr. Manning said all medical supplies shall be given priority and released without delay.

The new emergency order is effective immediately.
