Air Niugini participates in Authorization Process
Air Niugini Ltd, through its subsidiary Link PNG Ltd, has started with the Authorization process headed by the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) into the bid to acquire a portion of share in PNG Air Ltd.
Air Niugini Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Bruce Alabaster confirmed by saying that they expect to finalize their Public Benefit Submission to ICCC this week.
ICCC earlier this month called on stakeholders in this matter including to two airlines, to participate in the process that will eventually see an outcome on this bid.
The ICCC CEO and Commissioner Mr. Paulus Ain, when commenting on Air Niugini and Link PNG coming out on media explaining the benefits that would come from their bid, urged the airline company to give its submissions and participate in the Authorization process.
“If they are saying this then they have to convince the ICCC through this process that we are looking at an outcome that is likely to benefit the consumers by way of a reduction in the airfares,” said Mr. Ain.
“Preferably, they should go through the process and wait until the ICCC comes out with the determination, but then there is no law under the ICCC Act that prohibits them from making such statements. At this stage, that’s their own view.”
Meanwhile, the process takes about 72 days to go through all the submissions from stakeholders in the airline industry.
