Couple Arrested in Central Province For Cultivating Marijuana

A couple was arrested today and their marijuana trees uprooted by Central Police following a dawn raid today at Brown River, Central Province.


A total of 246 marijuana trees were uprooted, says Central PPC Chief Sergeant Ted Opai.

He says the street value for this drug bust is estimated around 15-20 000 kina.

The couple, who are care takers of the garden, have been arrested and charged for the cultivation and for being in possession of the drugs under the Dangerous Drugs Act.

6 other suspects were not in their homes when the operation took place.

It is understood, half of the portion of the marijuana garden was already harvested and sold and the money was used to purchase a homemade gun.
