PNG Parliament votes in new deputy Speaker
The Papua New Guinea Parliament today appointed Member for Markam Koni Iguan as the parliament’s new deputy Speaker.
This morning parliament debated and voted to have Member for Nipa Kutubu Jeffery Komal removed as the Deputy Speaker. This was done after he joined the Opposition led by former prime Minister Peter O'Neill.
Votes were done via a secret ballot and the results were 65 MPs Voted for Komal's removal while 25 voted against.
During Nominations Markam MP Koni Iguan was the only one nominated.
Nominations were closed right after that leaving no room for any other nominations to be made.
