PNG National Airlines Employee's Association to Protest assault on Employees

The Papua New Guinea National Airlines Employees’ Association says all members and workers of Air Niugini are likely to go on protest on Tuesday after two Air Niugini employees were assaulted on Friday by 10 police officers at Daru Airport.


NAEA President Samson Nul says a Cargo Officer and the female airport Manager were assaulted by disgruntled officers who were expecting their uniforms to arrive on a PX flight that day.

 Mr. Nul says the actions of the officers mandated to maintain law and order is uncalled for, calling on the Air Niugini management and the police force to address the issue as soon as possible.

Mr. Nul says both staff is now at the Daru hospital as they were severely injured.

NAEA female representative Rosie Koibua says Police brutality on civilians especially women is unacceptable and must stop.

The NAEA is calling on the government, Police Minister and Police Commissioner to address police brutality issue in the country.

Police is yet to make a statement on the incident.
