Police Arrest and Charge Abusive Husband for Causing grievous bodily harm to spouse
Port Moresby Police have now arrested and charged 33 year old 2nd Lieutenant Murray Oa with one count of causing grievous bodily harm under Section 319 of the PNG Criminal Code Act.
NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N'Dranou said Oa from Waima village Kairuku Central Province, was escorted by Military Police into Boroko Police Station Station yesterday after his wife had laid a formal complaint.
He was formally arrested and charged by Boroko Family & Sexual Violence Unit and detained at the Boroko cells.
Oa was arrested and charged after a video footage showing how he violently head-butted his wife and used a clothes iron to attack her, went viral on social media.
Mr N'Dranou said Oa is a military officer but he acted alone in this instance. Therefore people should not judge the military over this personal and isolated incident.
It is up to Mr Oa to defend himself in Court.
Mr Oa has cooperated well with Police. We also thank the Military Police for working closely with RPNGC to facilitate movement of LT Oa to Boroko Police Station.
N'Dranou said Oa was arrested and charged after the victim 30 year old Debbie Koare of Rapuri village Talasea West New Britian Province filed the complaint with Police.
