Businesses in PNG told to bank Money, not Ship them
Lae City Metropolitan Superintendent Chris Kunyanban is calling on foreign and local businesses in PNG to conduct bank to bank transfer instead of shipping money across.
Kunyanban made this call following the confiscation of the K198 000 cash from a container heading to Wewak from Lae last week.
He says shipping money in containers poses a security threat to those handling the care of the cargo and the shipping company
Meanwhile, Mr. Kunyanban says the money is been stored away at the Bank of PNG and a sector within BPNG responsible for money laundering is looking into the matter.
He says clearly regulations of the Bank of PNG is being breached and as such an investigation is on foot to determine what will happen to the cash and those responsible for it.
